Welcome to the web site of the North Jersey-Rockland Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management. We are a SHRM Platinum EXCEL Award winning Chapter!
Our mission is to serve the needs of the human resource management professional by providing the most essential and comprehensive set of resources available locally. We are committed to advancing the profession and the capabilities of all human resource professionals to ensure that HR is an essential and effective partner in developing and executing organizational strategy. We are proud to provide our membership with informative monthly meetings which allow them to keep abreast of current issues and developments in the human resource field; opportunities to enhance professional growth through participation in seminars, conferences and SHRM certification classes for SHRM-CP & SHRM-SCP; development of leadership skills through active involvement in the chapter and utilizing those leadership skills to establish and promote high standards of professionalism. Additionally, meetings offer the opportunity to network with local HR professionals who can become an invaluable resource.
Human Resource professionals play a key role in driving the performance and reputation of an organization because they leverage the organization’s most valuable asset – its people. HR also contributes to the performance and reputation of an organization through execution and strategy, aligning values and vision with business goals. The Human Resources Profession makes up many diverse and exciting areas of expertise and individuals pursuing HR as a career may find themselves in any or all of the following areas:
Management Practices
Includes HR planning, organizational design and development, budgeting, controlling and measurements, leadership, motivation, quality performance management along with diversity of the workforce.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
We provide diversity education, information, resources, current trends and best practices that are pertinent and relevant in order to assist our members in their efforts to provide a positive impact within their organization, their communities and in their personal lives.
Talent Acquisition
The legal and regulatory factors affecting hiring, such as equal employment opportunity and career planning and development; in addition to the complex process of selecting the right candidate for the right job.
Training and Development
Needs analysis, program development, presentation, evaluation, feedback and reinforcement.
Compensation and Benefits
Areas of interest include total compensation philosophy, strategy and policy, compensation programs, job analysis, job evaluation, pay structures and pay rates, employee benefit programs and total compensation evaluation.
Labor Relations
Union representation of employees, unfair labor practices, collective bargaining, performance issues and employee engagement and feedback.
